You need to blowdown boiler to control the solids content in the boiler water. Excessive sludge in the boiler can impede the insulation of the heating surfaces in the water tank. This can cause metal overheating and lead to boiler failure. Furthermore, high solids concentrations in the boiler water can cause water hammer, which can damage pipes and equipment, resulting in costly repairs.
Removing sludge from the boiler improves boiler efficiency, extends its lifespan, and reduces utility bills.
1. Open all fast-opening valves.
2. Open the slow-opening valves.
Blowdown the boiler according to the schedule specified in the manual. Check the water level in the water gauge. Some boilers may require multiple blowdowns to maintain the proper water level.
3. Close the slow-opening valves.
4. Close all fast-opening valves.
5. Open the ramp again and engage again. The goal is to drain the piping between the fast-opening and slow-opening valves.
6. Close the slow-opening valves for the final time. Once the valve has cooled, check again to ensure the shutoff is tight.
If you perform this process regularly, you can maximize to improve the use of your boiler.
